Objectives:

This two-day course is specifically designed for experienced, previously trained/certified Field Training Officers. This in-service training will provide transitional instruction on Breaking Routine™ from traditional numerically anchored Probationary law enforcement performance assessment to a behaviorally anchored process, which emphasizes training and coaching for outstanding job performance.
This update instruction emphasizes the FTO’s responsibilities to:
• Examine and objectively document probationer job behaviors and actions utilizing totally revised standardized assessment guidelines
• Analyze the probationer’s training needs and utilize the most appropriate instructional techniques for corrective action
The presentation will focus on discussion, as well as, hands-on application of course materials in small group and individual student exercises.
Course topics include:
• Performance assessment components utilizing a non-numerical evaluation scale
• Utilization of the revised Standardized Evaluation Guidelines
• Legally/objectively documenting probationer performance
• How to utilize a variety of on-the-job instructional/coaching techniques
• Documenting the extent of training and coaching when Corrective Action in Necessary™
Students should be familiar with their department’s current Field Training and Evaluation process. They should bring a copy of the agency’s current Probationary Officer/Deputy Manual and assessment forms to the class.
